Starting a new venture is always a multi-faceted challenge. When we decided to launch Emma and develop a mattress brand we expected some success – but a lot was different from what we anticipated and we had to question what we do and how we do it multiple times. Setting the right direction in critical moments helped us to become Europe’s fastest growing one product company. We will distill our learnings and discuss what we believe are core assets in any startup – relevant for both those just starting as well those already growing to a certain size. The session will also include a short tour of the company.

Emma was founded in 2015 - with the aim to bring more transparency, simplicity and fairness to the mattress industry striving for the happiest customers. So we developed our own mattress and sell it directly online with a 100 night trial guarantee. With high speed and agility we have become Europe’s fastest one product company and are by now one of the leading direct-to-consumer mattresses companies, active in 10 European countries. Emma has also won a couple of European awards, including being the best mattress in consumer tests in France and Netherlands. Emma is part of the Bettzeit Group, founded in 2013, which is a startup itself covering even more areas within the mattress industry with online retailer Dormando and the acquisition of the retail brand Dunlopillo in 2017. Bettzeit has 120 employees and made 20m EUR in revenues its third full year 2016.
